A wave of powerful, deadly tornadoes rattled several Southern states. Here’s what the damage looks like.

A second wave of tornadoes in two weeks hit several Southern states Thursday, destroying homes and churches, knocking down trees and leaving tens of thousands of people without power.

At least five people died as a result of the storms. In Alabama, Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown confirmed that four victims — three of whom were family members — were from Ohatchee, a small East Alabama town. The fifth victim, a woman, was from Wellington, Alabama.

The storm’s impact stretched to parts of Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. About 50 million people were in the path of severe weather, the Storm Prediction Center said.

This is the first time in 30 years that the Storm Prediction Center issued two high risks for severe weather in March, Accuweather said.
