Billionaire art collector and gallerist Adam Lindemann is shopping his massive Montauk compound off-market for $65 million, sources tell Gimme Shelter.
The oceanfront estate is known as Eothen, which famously used to belong to pop art icon Andy Warhol. A main house and six white-shingled cottages are laid out in a semicircle and set on on 5.7 acres.
We hear celebrities are circling. A rep for Lindemann did not return requests for on-the-record comment.
Lindemann and his art dealer wife Amalia Dayan, who’s also the granddaughter of the famed Israeli military general Moshe Dayan, bought Eothen in 2015 for $50 million. The seller was former J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler, who listed it for $85 million, and bought it in 2007 for $27 million.
The property is made up of two parcels at 16 Cliff Drive and 8 Old Montauk Highway.
Built in the 1930s as a rustic fishing camp for the wealthy Church family whose holdings included Arm & Hammer baking soda, it eventually came into the hands of Warhol and filmmaker Paul Morrissey, who bought it in 1972 for $225,000. They entertained boldface guests including John Lennon, Elizabeth Taylor and Mick Jagger.
Lindemann owns another Hamptons mansion nearby, at 404 and 406 Old Montauk Highway, that he has been trying to sell since buying Eothen, sources say. The main house is a six-bedroom, 8½-bathroom property over 7,500 square feet that has been renovated by famed architect David Adjaye. On its 3.1 acres, there’s a heated pool, jacuzzi and a two-car garage with a hydraulic lift. There’s a private staircase down to a 535-foot stretch of beach. The adjacent lot is 2.8 acres with a permit for a 3,225-square-foot house. The whole shebang is currently listed for $24 million — fully furnished, with selected artwork — with Lori Schiaffino of Compass.
