Household staple absorbs all grease and grime in ovens in just a few hours

Express uses baking soda to remove grease from oven racks

Ovens need to be deep cleaned every three months in order for them to work efficiently.

However, interior experts at Thomas Sanderson who polled 2,200 people found that Britons only wipe down their ovens once every 18 months.

A dirty oven can cause bad smells as grease and grime left inside the oven will continue to burn each time it’s switched on.

The smoke in the oven could even contain harmful gases such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and carbon monoxide.

Rather than resorting to chemicals to clean ovens, there are natural alternatives that can keep the appliance looking their best.

Cleaning influencer Lynsey Crombie, also known as the Queen of Clean, has shared a natural method for “absorbing all grease and grime” from ovens.

Lynsey advised homeowners to wipe over ovens every time they use them to keep them clean.

“After every use get into the habit of wiping over using a warm soapy cloth this makes a huge difference and really helps keep it clean,” she exclusively told

For a deeper clean, Lynsey advised using bicarbonate of soda, also known as baking soda, to give absorb grease and grime.

She explained: “You can use bicarbonates of soda to give it a good eco clean, simple sprinkle all over and dampen with water and then leave a few hours before removing.

“This can be messy, but it works so well and absorbs all the grease and grime.”

Baking soda is good for cleaning because it dissolves dirt and grease while deodorising.
