TIKTOK went down for thousands of users on September 15.

According to online outage trackers, the popular social media app keeps crashing when people try to open it on iPhone.

Is TikTok down?

Reports of Tiktok being down Thursday, September 15 at around 10:21 a.m. UK time (5:21 a.m. EST).

The site Downdetector, which tracks online outages, reported that the TikTok app is crashing when users attempt to open it.

A quick test by The Sun indicates that the issue may be due to the recent iOS 16 update, though TikTok nor Apple has confirmed this.

TikTok crashed on two iPhones with the iOS 16 update installed but the app loaded fine on third iPhone with the older version of iOS installed.

The Sun has reached out to TikTok for comment.

Many users then took to Twitter to discuss TikTok's problems.

One user wrote: "whats going on is tiktok down??"

Another said: "Is it just me or is tiktok keep exiting out for me when i try to click on the app ??"

Why does TikTok keep crashing?

It's not immediately clear why TikTok keeps crashing.

The problem appears to originate with iOS 16, the latest version of the iPhone operating system, which rolled out this week.

However, this has not been confirmed by either Apple or TikTok.

The Sun has reached out to TikTok for comment.

What is TikTok?

TikTok, one of the world's most downloaded phone app, first launched in the United States in 2018.

The social media app allows, which users to create and share video clips with music and camera effects, was founded by the entrepreneur Zhang Yiming.

It is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance.

The Chinese version of the app, called Douyin, was created in 2016.
